JOB TITLE: Interpreter III, Mill City Museum

LOCATION:
Mill City Museum, 704 South 2nd St., Mpls, MN 55401


COMPENSATION:
Typical starting rate $20.76 hourly


STATUS & HOURS:
This is a full-time, regular position of approximately 1,560 annual hours. A typical schedule is 6 hours a day Wednesdays, 7 hours a day Thursdays and Fridays, and 7.25 hours a day Saturdays and Sundays, February - June. Some days and evenings may also be expected as needed for gallery rentals and special events.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to engage, educate, and entertain Mill City Museum visitors and present lessons to school groups using a variety of advanced interpretive and performance techniques to communicate a comprehensive depth of historical information.


SUMMARY OF WORK:
1) Deliver program content using a variety of advanced interpretive and performance techniques that reach diverse audiences in multiple settings and participate in the daily operations of the museum; 2) Deliver more in depth and comprehensive school and youth programs; 3) Facilitate and present specialized interpretive programs and conduct directed research for assigned programs, on and off site; and 4) Serve as a mentor and trainer to new staff and volunteers, as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to provide consistent, high quality customer service.

  • Experience in museum/classroom teaching, historic/museum interpretation, educational theater performance or storytelling.

  • Proven skill in delivering programs as an Interpreter II at Mill City Museum.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maturely.

  • Demonstrated success in conveying program content and facilitating dialogue with diverse audiences.

  • Strong oral communication skills, and ability to listen and be responsive to questions and comments.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute positively in a team environment.

  • Experience in or willingness to learn computer software programs as needed.

  • Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds, ages, and abilities.

  • Ability to respond to questions and make adjustments to programs to meet audience needs.

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach, bend, push and pull to perform interpretive and operational duties.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and walk up to 2 miles a day in heat, cold, rain, and snow.

  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule of weekdays, weekends, and evening hours which may vary in number.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience working with children in an educational environment.

  • Experience in museum or site interpretation, theater, or storytelling.
