The Student Associate position provides part-time employment opportunities within University of Cincinnati departments. This role offers students the chance to gain valuable work experience while supporting the operations and services of the university.
The Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights at the University of Cincinnati College of Law has been editing the Human Rights Quarterly , the world’s leading human rights academic journal, published by Johns Hopkins University Press, for more than forty years. Though edited at the UC College of Law, HRQ is multidisciplinary, publishing research, policy analyses, essays, and book reviews on a range of international human rights matters by accepting scholarship from various fields—gender studies, history, philosophy, sociology, economics, disability studies, law, and more.
HRQ student editors are responsible for conforming articles to Bluebook citation and HRQ style standards through line editing, copyediting, cite checking, and formatting articles. Editors work with Urban Morgan’s program manager, who acts as a resource for student editors and as a liaison between the editors, authors, and Johns Hopkins University Press. The selected students will be rising undergraduate juniors or seniors (currently sophomores and juniors), or rising 2L and 3L law students (currently 1Ls and 2Ls); with an interest in law and human rights, excellent research and writing/editing skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
Location: The internship may be remote or in-person. HRQ is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dates: Students can begin working as early as mid-April and work through mid-August. Weekly hours are flexible, but typically 10-20 hours per week.
Pay: $13/hour

As a UC student employee, and employee of an Ohio public institution, if hired you will not contribute to the federal Social Security system, other than contributions to Medicare. Instead, UC employees have the option to contribute to a state retirement plan (OPERS, STRS) or an alternative retirement plan (ARP).
