Description
Kentucky State Police is the premier, full-service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. With the highest level of professionalism and integrity the Kentucky State Police works to prevent, reduce, and deter crime and the fear of crime; enhance highway safety through education and enforcement; protect and safeguard individual rights; and provide leadership, training, technical, and operational support to the criminal justice community.
The Public Safety Telecommunicator is a highly skilled team member, providing a vital link between the state Troopers and the information they need to be effective and efficient in their daily operations. Often times called the "nerve center" of police operations they are the initial first responders, taking the call and dispatching emergency personnel including state and local police, fire and ambulatory services. Due to the nature of 24 hour operations the applicant must be willing to work a flexible shift.
The Kentucky State Police recognizes the importance and significance of the Public Safety Telecommunicator to both Trooper and public safety and therefore goes to great lengths to ensure we provide the appropriate training and equipment for success. A comprehensive Field Training Program begins on the first day of employment and lasts through the first 12 months. In addition, all telecommunicators are required to attend a 5-week training academy within the first year of service to become certified with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, in the following systems: Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), as well as training and certification in Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD).
