Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The UNCG Police Department is committed to providing the highest level of campus law enforcement services available. Our officers and employees are highly trained and dedicated individuals whose personal mission is to make sure campus community’s experience at UNCG is not only memorable and successful, but also safe. We are counting on everyone to not only take responsible for their own safety but the safety of others. The police department offers these and other programs to help our Spartans achieve a safe and secure community.
Position Summary The Public Safety Telecommunicator position will be responsible for answering and handling all incoming calls to the PD, dispatching officers and security as needed; maintain constant communication with officers in the field providing information and monitoring their safety; operate and maintain DCI/NCIC terminals determining validity of drivers’ licenses, registrations and wanted info; maintain and handle emergency systems on the university campus to include alarms, camera systems, and telephone and radio recording devices; maintain an accurate log of all activities and calls; issue building keys to appropriate personnel on campus keeping a photo record of key distribution, issue emergency alerts via the university-wide notification system, monitor campus building access software.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
