Job Title: Produce Clerk

Location: Rainbow Acres Natural Foods, Venice, CA
Status: Full-Time or Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Produce Manager

Position Summary

The Produce Clerk is responsible for stocking, rotating, and merchandising fresh produce while delivering exceptional customer service. This position ensures the produce department remains clean, fresh, and fully stocked during daytime hours. The clerk works closely with the Produce Manager and team to uphold quality and presentation standards that reflect the values of Rainbow Acres.

Core Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Greet customers in a friendly manner and offer assistance with product selection.
• Answer questions about produce items, including organic vs. conventional, storage tips, and ripeness.
• Provide product recommendations and suggest recipe ideas when appropriate.

Stocking & Merchandising

• Stock and rotate fresh fruits and vegetables according to FIFO standards.
• Ensure displays are clean, organized, and well merchandised.
• Monitor produce quality and remove items that are damaged, spoiled, or overripe.
• Label products clearly with accurate signage and pricing.

Receiving & Prep

• Assist in receiving deliveries and check for quality and accuracy.
• Wash, trim, and package produce as needed for display and sale.
• Maintain storage coolers in a clean, organized condition.

Department Cleanliness

• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment at all times.
• Follow all food safety procedures, including proper handwashing and glove use.
• Sweep, mop, and sanitize prep areas, displays, and coolers as scheduled.

Team Communication

• Communicate with the Produce Manager regarding product needs, shortages, or customer feedback.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to maintain smooth department operations.

Key Qualifications

• 6 months grocery, produce, or food handling experience preferred.
• Passion for fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy living.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Strong communication skills and a positive team attitude.
