Job Description

Salary: $131,300 - 237,350 per year Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required)
  • Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field with at least 12 years of relevant experience, or a masters degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Mastery of programming languages such as C++, Python, or Qt, with substantial experience in deploying and managing large-scale production systems
  • Proven experience in leading software architecture and technical direction across multiple teams or projects
  • Extensive experience using AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Roo Code, or similar) and facilitating their implementation in a professional setting
  • Advanced ability to assess, validate, and oversee AI-generated outputs, including identifying systemic risks, security issues, and performance implications
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and system-level design considerations
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing engineering standards, best practices, and development methodologies across teams
  • Capacity to operate strategically and influence diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
Responsibilities:
  • Act as the leading technical authority for software engineering across one or more programs, shaping architecture, design, and long-term technical strategy
  • Direct the design and development of complex mission-critical software systems, ensuring they meet performance, safety, security, and scalability standards
  • Guide system-level and cross-program architectural decisions, including integration approaches and technology selections
  • Define and supervise the strategic implementation of AI-assisted software development across teams and projects
  • Establish enterprise or program-level policies, guidelines, and governance for responsible AI usage, with an emphasis on validation standards, traceability, security, compliance, and risk management
  • Assess the impact of AI-assisted development on safety-critical systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory, operational, and mission assurance standards
  • Provide expert evaluation of AI-generated outputs, pinpointing systemic risks, failure modes, and unintended consequences at scale
  • Advocate for the creation of standardized AI-assisted workflows, reusable components, and tooling that enhances productivity while upholding engineering integrity
  • Lead technical architecture and code reviews, enforcing the highest standards for software quality, whether human- or AI-generated
  • Mentor and nurture the development of senior and mid-level engineers, fostering their technical growth and promoting best practices in software engineering and AI-assisted development
  • Collaborate with program leadership, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and other stakeholders to align software strategy with mission goals
  • Pursue continuous enhancement across development processes, toolchains, and engineering culture, including the effective integration of emerging AI technologies
