job summary:
The Maintenance & Engineering Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and engineering functions to ensure reliability, safety, optimization, and continuous improvement of production equipment, utilities, and facilities.
This role oversees maintenance technician teams supporting production, building, and facilities, as well as maintenance and process engineers responsible for process optimization, automation, and equipment improvement.
The position plays a key role in maximizing equipment performance, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving innovation across the production environment.

responsibilities:
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations & Facilities Oversight
- Lead and manage Maintenance Technician teams responsible for:
- Production equipment maintenance and interventions
- Building and facility systems
- Utilities (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, water, etc.)
- Develop and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
- Ensure high equipment uptime, reliability, and safe operation
- Oversee facility upkeep, repairs, and infrastructure improvements
- Manage maintenance work orders, scheduling, prioritization, and contractor support
Engineering, Process Optimization & Automation - Lead Maintenance Engineers responsible for:
- Process optimization and efficiency improvements
- Production line automation and control systems
- Equipment upgrades, retrofits, and technology adoption
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on:
- Throughput, yield, and cycle time improvement
- Reduction of downtime, defects, and manual handling
- Support capital projects, including:
- Equipment selection and specification
- Installation, commissioning, and qualification
- Serve as a key technical partner to Operations, Quality, and Leadership for production scalability and innovation
Calibration & Equipment Control
- Ensure effective oversight of the equipment calibration program
- Verify calibration schedules are maintained and records are complete and audit-ready
- Oversee investigation of out-of-tolerance results and support product impact assessments in collaboration with Quality
- Ensure equipment qualification and readiness for operational and regulatory requirements
Compliance, Quality & Documentation
- Ensure maintenance and engineering activities comply with:
- cGMP and regulatory requirements (as applicable)
- Safety, environmental, and internal quality standards
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation, including:
- Maintenance logs, work orders, and SOPs
- Calibration and equipment records
- Engineering change documentation
- Support internal, external, and regulatory audits and inspections
- Participate in deviations, investigations, and CAPA development and execution
Team Leadership & Resource Management
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for:
- Maintenance technicians
- Maintenance and process engineers
- Build strong collaboration between maintenance and engineering functions
Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Planning - Analyze equipment performance data, downtime trends, and reliability metrics
- Implement improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, efficiency, and cost control
- Develop long-term maintenance and engineering strategies aligned with business goals
- Support production expansion, capacity planning, and future automation initiatives
- Manage departmental budgets, spare parts inventories, and vendor relationships
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
qualifications:
Required Education: - Bachelor degree in engineering or computer sciences, or relevant technical certification (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, etc.)
Required Experience: - A minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience a Maintenance Supervisor in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Prior experience with FFS equipment.
- Experience with cleanrooms or aseptic operations.
Skills and Attributes: - Excellent Communication Skills.
- Creative, practical proactive problem solving
- Flexibility with shifting priorities and processes
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence without authority
Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical, electrical, HVAS and process engineering knowledge
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment quickly
- Preventative and corrective maintenance planning
