Local News Reporter-Omaha, NE The Omaha World-Herald is seeking an ambitious and
versatile reporter to join our newsroom in a key reporting role focused on
accountability journalism.
This will be a core position, designed to match the
successful candidate's strengths. Depending on experience and interest,
coverage focus may include local government, public safety, courts, suburbs,
business or a similar key newsroom beat.
World-Herald reporters enjoy a flexible, hybrid work
environment and a collaborative newsroom culture. We are looking for an
audience-focused reporter who strives to inform, enlighten and entertain
readers.
The successful candidate is comfortable breaking news,
building sources and developing deeper enterprise. You should be able to move
quickly identifying and executing breaking news coverage while also spotting
trends and producing work that holds institutions accountable. What you’ll do: · Own and develop a beat in collaboration with
editors, with flexibility based on your expertise · Break news and deliver clear, accurate stories
on deadline · Produce enterprise and watchdog reporting that
resonates with readers · Build strong source networks and deepen coverage
over time · Contribute to digital storytelling, including
live coverage, newsletters, and social platforms What we’re looking for: · Strong reporting and writing skills, with sound
news judgment · Ability to work independently while
collaborating across the newsroom · Experience covering government, courts, public
safety, suburbs, business or similar beats is a plus · A demonstrated ability to produce enterprise
work · Comfort with a digital-first publishing
environment, collaborating with others to promote stories through social and
video channels · Eagerness to experiment with AI tools
