Job Title: Heavy Equipment/Rental Truck Mechanic

Job Description

Under the guidance of the Service Manager, the Heavy Equipment/Rental Truck Mechanic will perform service and repair procedures on truck-mounted vacuum equipment both in the shop and in the field. This role requires occasional travel for field service and repair calls, as well as attending necessary training sessions. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, along with performing routine PM inspections and requirements for fuels, fluids, and lubrication related to the chassis.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics effectively.
• Perform all scheduled PM inspections of chassis, vacuum body, hydraulic, electrical, air, and water systems.
• Conduct repairs within DOT or OEM standards to return rental equipment to 'Ready to Rent' status.
• Perform and document inspections of fleet equipment.
• Maintain and organize shop and storage areas, ensuring proper storage of flammable items.

Essential Skills

• Solid understanding of the function, operation, and maintenance of truck-mounted vacuum equipment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data, drawings, and schematics.
• Capability to administer DOT inspections.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting, heavy equipment handling, hydraulics, pneumatics, preventive maintenance, mechanical repair, diesel engines, and welding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three years of verifiable experience as a mechanic.
• Preferred experience in heavy equipment truck mechanics, hydraulics, trailer, or construction mechanics.
• Experience with truck-mounted vacuum equipment is preferred.

Work Environment

Work in a service repair shop during the day shift, either from 8 AM to 5 PM or 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. While some call outs are required, there is no weekend work.

This is a Permanent position based out of Merrillville, IN.

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $72800.00/yr.

This is a fully onsite position in Merrillville,IN.
